Finger Painting

Purpose: To develop awareness and control of eye-hand primary skills

Apparatus: Finger paint (several colors), large paper (news print)

Method:

1. Use at least five colors of finger paint.

2. Patient is to paint a picture with each finger, using a different color on each finger, and using each finger separately.

3. Now he uses all five colors and fingers at same time.

4. Patient adds to each of the first five finger paintings any combination of the other colors–as patient desires.

5. Work on names of colors and names of hands if not already known.

Aspects to be Emphasized:

1. Discrete use of each finger separately.

2. Discrete use of each finger in combination with other fingers.

3. Visually directed use of fingers.

 

Finger Paint Recipes

Recipe # 1

2 Tbsp. cornstarch

1 Tbsp. salt

1 1/2 cups cold water

Mix together.  Cook slowly, stirring occasionally until thick.

Cool and add food coloring.

 

Recipe # 2

1 cup flour

1 Tbsp. salt

1 quart water

Blend carefully.  Cook slowly until thick, stirring occasionally.

Cool.  Divide and add food coloring.
