VISUAL MOTOR III – Fine Motor Control 2 & 3

PURPOSE: To improve accuracy (and eventually speed) of visually guided finemotor movements.

PROCEDURE: Draw a continuous line from left to right that goes under the X’s and

over the O’s. Try not to touch any of the X’s and O’s above or below the line you’re

working on. Use your eyes to plan ahead. Be as accurate as possible. Later, we’ll time

you to see how fast you can do it while maintaining accuracy.

GOAL FOR THE WEEK:

This is a simple yet challenging exercise to assist in developing fine motor skills and visually guided fine motor movements. It is not writing, but is great practice for it. This activity can be easily loaded/un-loaded and so is appropriate for all ages and skill levels. Only basic letter recognition is required.

Material: Download and print X and O 20.pdf. Pen/pencil (preferred).

Loading:

  • • Try using a Metronome to set a moderate or slow pace to begin with, depending on the skill level of the child. This should only serve to set the general pace of things and should not be used to specifically generate timed hand movements.
  • • Try timing the activity. Do 5 lines, or 10, but you do not have to do the whole page at a time. Have the child try to beat this time on the next attempt.
  • • If the child is quite comfortable with X and O 20.pdf, move on to X and O 14.pdf.
