Writing and video production are difficult when done in a vacuum. As authors, it’s difficult to generate material that will exactly convey the desired thoughts and sentiments. We can only hope that most of what we intend to describe is actually understood in close to the desired message. To complicate things even further, we are trying to convey techniques targeted to both children and adults.

With respect to dealing with gender, our policy is to be very loose with gender pronouns, mixing freely ‘he’ and ‘she’ in describing a particular activity, and even sometimes describing the fictitious same child in the same sentence as either or. Managing gender in English is difficult and cumbersome, and we prefer to avoid the cold detachment of the third person (they/their) as a default, though it has its place.

Elsewhere, you will find that we refer to ‘children’ or ‘child’ on the one hand, and ‘clients’ on the other, again rather interchangeably. There are, however, some exercises that are purely for older teens/adults, while others are really intended for children. In these cases, you will the preferential descriptions in the articles and videos.
