Where What Is It Line Up

WHERE IS IT?  WHAT IS IT?  LINE UP

PURPOSE: To develop visualization and visual memory

APPARATUS: Paper bag, small familiar objects, toys, shapes, or wooden letters

METHOD:

1. WHERE IS IT?:

Child is to look around in a familiar area, close eyes and, at command, point in direction of objects named (on table, in room, in yard).

2. WHAT IS IT?:

Place objects in bag, one at a time.  Patient is to reach in the bag and draw or name what is felt.  Also, feel objects behind back.  Try comparing similar objects to feel the differences and similarities.  Also, place two or three familiar objects or shapes in bag.  Ask him to feel and select a specific one.

3. LINE UP:

Place three to five objects on table.  Have patient look them over and then turn around.  Now home assistant either (a) takes away one, (b) adds one, or (c) rearranges them.  Patient is to respond appropriately to which one is missing or added, or which one(s) was moved.  Rearrange to original pattern.  Add more items as performance improves.  Initially, let patient know, in advance, which way you are going to play the game.

ASPECTS TO BE EMPHASIZED:

1. Ability to visualize directionality.

2. Ability to visualize from touch.

3. Ability to recall visual patterns.
