Procedure/Materials: Begin by downloading and printing the attached documents. Note: You do not need a ‘tape recorder’ as most smart phones and computers have recorders built in. Be very comfortable with using your recorder before you begin.
Rehearsal Reading is an exercise designed to build confidence in new readers of any level. Hearing oneself speak is one of the most powerful ways of working on confidence and diction. Even if a child only knows a few words or is reading a Grade 1 or K level, this activity will work. Be sure to emphasize that this sort of activity is somewhat awkward to to at first, as we are not generally used to hearing our own voices.
Load it: Challenge the child to speak in a clear voice and pronounce the words very clearly. They can, if you like, try to speak like a news anchor/reporter.
