This can be a fun and effective activity to build spatial reasoning skills and strategic thinking, but it can be a little tricky to understand at first. It’s a game that can be played anywhere and any time. Though it’s easy to spend quite some time at this, it’s still quite effective if you only do a handful of rounds at any given session.

Material: Download and print, or simply preview the instruction sheet. You will also need pencils/pens, and paper to draw on. It’s easiest at first if you only do one game per side of paper, but later you can do more on one page if the child is not too confused by the other drawings on the page. We recommend beginning with a full sheet initially, then once the child has the sense of the activity, use smaller sheets – cut/fold the sheet into quarters.

Procedure: Follow the instructions on the attached document. It is the standard Tic Tac Toe game, but played in three dimensions. The best way to visualize this is as described – three telephone poles in a row. Be sure to let the child win to keep them interested.
