Vision & Learning Month
August is Vision & Learning month, so here at Vision Mechanic we will be celebrating and educating on the role that vision plays in learning (hint: it plays a BIG role). As visual creatures, it’s unsurprising that vision is crucial to learning and development, well before a child ever steps foot in a classroom. From the moment a child is born, their visual system starts taking in the world around them; processing, refining and enabling their comprehension of the world.
Check out this video from the Vision Mechanic on vision blindness, what it is, and how a lack of knowledge about human vision leaves countless children “in the blind” academically, socially and professionally.
What is Vision Blindness?
Given how central vision is to human function, you might think that it’s impossible to overlook when it comes to child learning and development. But vision is more complex than simply seeing, “20/20” and detecting visual problems is often much more complicated than reading an eye chart.
What is vision blindness, and how can people be blind TO vision?
Vision blindness: Systemic inattention to vision dysfunction and its role in quality of life, child development, and academic and economic outcomes, and the fact that it affects different ethnicities differently. In all cases, the reason for vision blindness is lack of professional education in the field of human vision science, and so, lack of awareness among those who are in positions of authority in healthcare and education.
